Thunnus Fest 2025: Santa Flavia celebrates bluefin tuna through taste, culture and maritime identity

From May 30 to June 1, 2025, Santa Flavia hosts the highly anticipated edition of the Thunnus Fest, the festival dedicated to the Mediterranean bluefin tuna, a historical and cultural symbol of the Sicilian maritime tradition. An event that combines flavors, knowledge and future visions, involving schools, institutions, local businesses and hundreds of citizens.

Among the events, the show cooking with starred chefs and restaurateurs of the area, who will enhance the bluefin tuna in an innovative way, combining it with the best organic agri-food products of the Piana di Baarìa. But the Thunnus Fest is also culture, with talk shows, photographic and painting exhibitions, guided tours of Solunto and meetings dedicated to the development of sustainable tourism and ethical fishing.

The event, supported by the Municipality of Santa Flavia and numerous public and private partners, confirms itself as a model of active participation of the community. Bluefin tuna is not only a gastronomic protagonist, but also a tool for territorial promotion, a shared identity and an engine of economic and cultural growth.

Blue Fish Festival: Two days of taste and tradition in Sant’Elia

The picturesque seaside village of Sant’Elia, a hamlet of Santa Flavia, is preparing to welcome the 1st edition of the Sagra del Pesce Azzurro, an unmissable event for lovers of good food and local traditions. The event will be held on the evenings of Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September 2024, from 7.30pm to 10.00pm, along the picturesque Lungomare Via dei Cantieri.

Promoted by the Municipality of Santa Flavia with the patronage of the Sicilian Region Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries and with the collaboration of the associations Open Space, Pro Loco Santa FlaviaAPS and ASDC Sabikah, the festival presents itself as an opportunity unique to rediscover the authentic flavors of the territory. During the two evenings, visitors will be able to taste free dishes based on oily fish, expertly prepared by our chefs.

The event also boasts a prestigious collaboration with the Cantine Duca di Salaparuta, which will offer their wines for tasting, perfect for accompanying seafood specialties. Furthermore, thanks to the participation of I Cuocarini in Tour and Euroform Scuola dei Mestieri, the public will be able to attend culinary demonstrations and deepen their knowledge of local gastronomic traditions.

Not just gastronomy: the festival will also offer a space dedicated to local craftsmanship, with the traditional Crafts Corner, where products created manually by our talented artisans will be displayed.

The event will be enriched by musical and folklore performances. On Friday 13 September, the Folk and Drummers and Majorettes Association of Aspra will liven up the evening, while on Saturday 14 September, the event will be animated by the Soluntum Folk Group. The event will end from 10pm on September 14th, with the concert by Lello Analfino Duo (guitar and voice), which promises to give unique emotions with its music.

Flavese Carnival 2023, two days of fun for the little ones

Opening Punic Necropolis of Solunto

We inform citizens that on Sunday 8 January it will be possible to visit the Punic necropolis located in via Consolare free of charge. It will be an important moment to make known, especially to the little ones, a place that contains our history. We await you at the meeting point of Villa Filangeri at 10:00 to then proceed with the visit.

The necropolis consists of chamber tombs with dromos (ie the access ladder), dug into the calcarenite bank. Some of the discovered tombs contained accompanying artefacts, including some valuable terracotta statuettes from the Hellenistic age, now exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Palermo.
