About 1 mile from the port of Porticello, near Palermo, there is the suggestive “Formica” dry two rocks on the ancient routes not known on nautical charts, the scene of shipwrecks of large boats in the Phoenician and Roman periods. The ant rock is a mountain of 60 meters. depth reaches the surface and comes out of the water for about half a meter, in the middle of the Gulf of Porticello. Being the mountain of gigantic size, the possibility ‘to vary the dives, choosing easy or difficult paths, shallow or rather demanding, technical or recreational, makes it one of the most’ famous and visited diving spots in the area.
Among the fans of the gorgonian you can discover small organisms that live permanently in these ramifications: shrimps, crinoids, colored nudibranchs, a concert of life and a true paradise for lovers of macro photography. In depth, reserved for technical divers, you can admire an authentic rarity of the “Mare Nostrum”: the black coral, not to be confused with the Gerardia savaglia, also present, but the Anthipates subpinned the authentic coral with white fans rosé.
The fact that “La Formica” is located in open sea contributes to increase the interest of those who, in addition to being able to see the species that normally live on our coasts, can make numerous meetings with friends such as: tuna, moonfish, large amberjack, big dentexes, imperial saraghi, shoals of glances.
