The Castle and Royal Palace of Solanto, in ancient times, was the administrative point of the area and overlooks the sea. It was built at the time of King Roger and is located on a high cliff overlooking the sea.
In ancient times it was a military defense point, also because in the vicinity there were several tuna tanks. Subsequently the castle became a state property and passed from hand to hand to different owners.
The Royal Palace consists of an area of the Castle that was used as a private residence of Prince Ferdinand I of Bourbon. Today the castle and the royal palace are accessible to the public, even if one of the wings is closed for restoration.
